A MAN who lost his right arm in a car accident is looking to rebuild his life after being awarded £500,000 compensation.

Musavier Aqib Mubarak, 25, from the Brunswick Street area of Nelson, was a passenger in a car when the driver lost control and crashed into a lamp-post and wall in Burnley Road, Bacup, in early 2004. Following the crash Musavier faced weeks of treatment at North Manchester Hospital, where a decision was taken to surgically remove his right arm.

For Musavier, who was right-handed and had signed up for a local cricket team just a month before, recovering from the setback has been a long and hard process. He said: “It has been difficult and a really testing time. When I am awake I am in constant pain and still suffer flashbacks from that night.” But now after a legal action launched by Nelson-based solicitor Nadeem Bukhari, he can look forward to the future with renewed hope. The driver’s insurers have this week agreed to pay him a £500,000 out-of-court settlement, after viewing medical reports on Musavier’s physical and psychological state in the aftermath of the accident.

Lawyer Mr Bukhari, who has his own firm in Carr Road, and conducted the case, said: “He is very pleased with the outcome of the case and he is now in the process of re-planning his future with the sizeable settlement award.” Since the accident Musavier has been left unable to work. He added: “I was into cricket and had just joined a team, a month before the accident; I was into all kinds of sports.” Court proceedings were issued shortly after the original incident but have only just been resolved following discussions between Mr Bukhari and the driver’s lawyers.
